It’s Easy to Get Upset
Thinking of the state of the world, and the intense hardship that some people around the globe have to deal with, and specifically in relation to the recent election and division in the United States, it’s easy to get upset and blame. We can all get into our self-righteous mindset and project into the future, about global warming, war, famine, inequity.
But what good does that ultimately create? Focussing on the negative is so overplayed in the media, that it’s hard sometimes to balance the good and the bad of humanity and make sense of it.
Like I wrote on the homepage of my site, in the quote from Buddha, focussing on the present is a good way to alleviate the anxiety of the What If mentality. Find your zen…for me, last week after the election results, I took the afternoon off and went surfing, because the spiraling negativity in me was manifesting physical illness. I had to find my Zen.
So I did what I needed to do, to reset, and clear my mind. There is something so innately peaceful about being in the ocean, floating on your board, waves lapping, swaying gently with the swell…we can not control life. It’s as unattainable as controlling the ocean or the weather, or time.
I closed my eyes, and just felt the sun on my face, the water around me, sea gulls squalling in the wind…and in that moment, I came to terms it all. I cleared my mind in between sets, and surrendered to the swell of the tides.
#Danielle Frederick sums it up very eloquently in her post as well:
